There are some safe methods that can be followed to maintain a healthy life in addition to maintaining the necessary practices that help prevent the transmission of infectious diseases; These diseases have become a source of concern in the recent years, especially after the resistance of some types of bacteria to the available antibiotics.

General ways of preventing diseases

Here are a set of tips to prevent getting infected by the large number of diseases in the community:

1- Follow healthy diets:
 Eating healthy food contributes to maintaining the health of muscles, bones, and stores of vitamins, and controlling chronic diseases such as; High blood pressure, diabetes. In fact, one of the most important problems that these regimes fight is obesity which is considered a risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease, arthritis, and some types of cancer, so it is advised to reduce the intake of food that is rich in calories such as; Fats, fried foods, egg yolks, and sweets, while eating food that is low in calorie such as; Fruits and vegetables. It is also recommended to eat food that is made from whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and seafood and to limit the intake of salt, saturated fats, trans-fats and cholesterol.

2- Taking nutritional supplements:
Tablets of nutritional supplements that contain vitamins and minerals represent one of the means of preventing diseases, especially in some societies and among some individuals exposed to deficiency of these important elements in the body, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Vitamin A, Iron and Folate.

3- Regular screening tests:
 A group of medical examinations that are aimed at detecting the presence of some types of diseases and cancers at an early date, which makes it easier and more successful to treat.

4- Monitor blood pressure:
In addition to monitoring the levels of cholesterol and blood sugar, and making sure to keep all levels within normal range.

5- Maintaining a healthy weight: It is recommended to maintain a healthy weight to height ratio.

6- Exercising: It is recommended to try to exercise for 30 minutes a day, and in fact the duration of exercises can be divided throughout the day, for example you can walk two or three times a day.

7 – Quit smoking: Smoking is one of the causes that destructs health and shortens life expectancy for an individual in addition to causing death, so it is recommended to quit smoking.

8- Good sleep:
It is important for the individual to get plenty of rest and sleep daily, and in fact Serotonin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and folic acid affect the quality of sleep. That’s why food plays an important role in a maintaining a good night sleep so it is recommended to focus on complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and unsaturated fats.

Means of preventing infection:

Here are a set of essential healthy habits to prevent infection and the spread of germs:

1- Paying attention to safe cooking practices:
This includes the following practices: using hot water and soap to clean utensils used in cooking – using disposable kitchen cleaning pads – washing regular cleaning pads frequently  to avoid the accumulation of bacteria – Washing fruits and vegetables before eating – Separating cutting boards for fresh products from cutting boards for raw meat – Cooking food well and at suitable temperatures to kill germs – keeping food in the fridge or freezer; The refrigerator stops most bacteria from growing in food, while some bacteria can die in the freezer – Frequent hand washing.

2- Many diseases can be transmitted through clothes, things, and surfaces where germs can live in these places for a period ranging from several minutes to several months depending on the type of disease so the Centers for Disease Control recommends washing hands carefully using soap and water for 20 seconds, and then drying hands with tissue paper. In the absence of Running water, you can use wipes or an alcohol-based hand gel.

3- Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces:
It is recommended to clean the various surfaces in the house using soap and water, with the need to sterilize the bathroom and kitchen regularly, using an appropriate disinfection and sterilization liquid such as; Bleaching solution, or alcohol. It should be noted that it is important to sterilize the surfaces of the house in case of having a sick individual.

4- Covering the mouth when sneezing and coughing:
Some diseases can spread through coughing and sneezing in the form of very small drops that may be difficult to see, but they do scatter in the air. In fact, the individual can transmit diseases despite the absence of symptoms as most infectious diseases remain for a period of time inside the individual’s body preparing for the attack through growth and division. Without these symptoms of the disease, the individual will transmit the infection to others by coughing and sneezing without even realizing it. Therefore, it is advised to cover the mouth whenever you cough or sneeze.

5- Not sharing personal tools:
it is forbidden to share personal tools and materials, especially those that are difficult to sterilize such as; Toothbrushes, razors, towels, needles and nail clippers. These materials and tools can be a source of bacterial; viral or fungal infections.

6- Taking the necessary vaccinations:
There are necessary vaccinations for children and adults that are taken to prevent infection. In addition, some vaccines are available of to be taken in the event of travel to certain regions of the world.
The importance of vaccines in preventing infectious diseases is that they encourage the body to produce white blood cells and antibodies which attack the germs that reoccur inside.

7- Practicing safe sex: Using condoms is one of the ways to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

8- Dealing with animals with caution:
There are many diseases that can be transmitted through animals, so it is necessary to pay attention when raising domestic pets and visit the veterinarian to ensure their safety and give them the necessary vaccinations. Also, cleaning their area well is always necessary while preventing children from approaching the feces of these the animals.
